Brooks Robinson Jr. is a former professional baseball player. Born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, Robinson attracted the notice of MLB scouts while playing American Legion Baseball.
Signed by the Orioles in 1955, he debuted with them that same year. He was Baltimore's Opening Day third baseman in 1957, but it was not until the second half of the 1959 season that he took over the third base position full-time. In 1960, he was selected to the first of 18 straight All-Star Games. That year, he won the first of 16 consecutive Gold Glove Awards. He played for the Baltimore Orioles for 23 seasons, one of the longest careers spent with a single team in the MLB. Robinson is considered the greatest defensive third baseman in major league history.
The Orioles unveiled a larger-than-life bronze sculpture of Robinson at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on September 29, 2012, as part of the Orioles Legends Celebration Series during the 20th anniversary of the ballpark.
